Postdoctoral position
Please contact Prof. Mengkun Liu.
Student positions
Mengkun Liu is looking for 2-3 graduate students to start in fall 2020. Applications at both the MS and PhD level are welcome.
Our group will be working on nano-optics at extreme conditions (high magnetic field, low temperature) in the next five years. The system to study include quantum materials and topological low dimensional systems. I expect PhD students to develop their own projects, with my guidance. MSc students would have a choice of projects. The common thread is that everyone in my lab ask fundamental questions about the material properties (optical&thermal properties, quantum criticality, topology etc.) at the nanoscale and develop experimental and theoretical tools to solve the problems.
If you’re interested but haven't heard my talk or work, please email me ([email protected]). Tell me a little about your background, interests, and long-term (post-grad school) goals, including why you think my lab would be a good fit for you. For more on my lab and my research, see my homepage (https://mengkun.weebly.com/). Our group has published 30+ journal articles in the past four years, including Nature Photonics, PRX, PRL, Advanced Materials etc... For more on my mentoring philosophy, we can schedule a one-on-one meeting. Guaranteed funding is available for 4 years (PhD or Master-->PhD) through a combination of TAships, RAships, and other sources.
We are always looking for motivated SBU graduate and undergraduate students with interests in condensed matter physics and optics to join our group. Interested students may contact Mengkun Liu ([email protected]) to discuss potential opportunities.
